Invitation to VARC
1-4pm 12th August at VARC
An afternoon of socialising and talks from artists associated with the Auxiliary on their residency at VARC. An informal afternoon to hear about the diverse studio practices of the artists in residence, ask questions and see some examples of the work already produced.
Highlights will include a talk/studio visit with Emma Bennett to explore how they have used the previous week to make new work using the sites architecture as a starting point. A presentation by Bordello collective (John James Perangie, Loucey Bain, Graham Easterlow and Andy Newcombe) who will be using their residency to concentrate on their own practices away from the hustle and bustle of Middlesbrough.
Dianne Bowell will share their paintings and the ideas behind the pieces they produced while on residency. Lisa Lovebucket and Will Hughes will also be in attendance to chat about how they will be using their time on the residency.
Light refreshments will also be served.
An exhibition of the 12 Artists on residence will take place during Middlesbrough Art Week from the 28th of September untill the 8th of October.

Access: Parking is available on site. The talks will be in various outbuildings at VARC’s home of Highgreen, therefore expect some uneven ground. Unfortunately, there is no accessible toilet.

Visual Arts in Rural Communities (VARC) is based at Highgreen, Tarset in rural Northumberland. VARC funds and manages an on-going programme of residencies for artists. Through its activities, VARC aims to offer opportunities to artists to develop their work in response to the rural landscape and its community. It seeks to foster, promote and advance the appreciation and understanding of contemporary art and enjoyment of creativity through exhibitions, events and participatory activities in the community and with local schools, regional SEN and SEND schools and visiting groups.
