ADODE is our response to a world gripped by a health emergency created by Covid-19. How do we continue to create and make in these challenging times?

Reflecting on what we do as an organization and who that organization benefits we decide to create two strands to ABODE.

Strand one

ABODE: Artist in own Residence

This, with the support from Arts Council England and Creative Darlington we were support artists and create new learning possibilities. The residency enabled artists to take time and explore open source softwares that could have a positive impact on their creative output. The four programmes that artist could work with where Blender, VVVV, Pure Data and OBS Studio.

Blender is a 3D computer graphics software tool-set used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, motion graphics, interactive 3D applications, and computer games. VVVV is a general purpose toolkit with a special focus on real-time video synthesis and programming large media environments with physical interfaces, real-time motion graphics, audio and video. Pure Data (Pd) is a visual programming language for creating interactive computer music and multimedia works. OBS Studio is a free and open-source software suite for recording and live streaming. OBS provides real-time source and device capture, scene composition, encoding, recording, and broadcasting.

Strand two

ABODE: Every Home is a Gallery

This opened up the possibility of every home becoming its own gallery. We invited photography collective WAX and print maker Suzie Devy to create a project that could be delivered to persons front door. Suzie went with a lino-cut pack where people can make prints on their kichen tables. WAX, continuing their work with disposable cameras, are looking for people to document thier covid-19 lockdown experience.

100 packs were given out in the Gresham/Newport area of Middlesbrough. This project is still live so check back in a few weeks to see the results.

Funded by Arts Council England, Creative Darlington, Thirteen and MBC Community Chest. Thanks to Open Door North East for helping with distributing the art packs.
